IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship weekend is dedicated to sustainability

Swim, bike, run – these three disciplines, which all take place in the nature, have to be tackled by the athletes of the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship 2015 in Zell am See-Kaprun, SalzburgerLand. Therefore IRONMAN pays increased attention to the surroundings, which are providing the set up for this great race.

“The environment and its nature are one of the major key factors for our races. It is our responsibility to take care of it and to find new synergies and strategies to provide sustainable events. We have always paid close attention to reduce environmental impact and we want to even do more in the upcoming years. We are happy and proud to call the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship a sustainable race”, says race director Erwin Dokter.

IRONMAN implemented various environmental measures to make the race week an official green event: The majority of suppliers are coming from the region itself to provide short and efficient ways; water saving toilets will be installed around the race course; the volunteer shirts are made out of recycled materials; vegetarian dishes will be provided to athletes of all races, as well as all signage for the events are sustainable and won’t be thrown away.

Erwin Dokter is proud of the arrangements made: “It doesn’t matter if it concerns IRONKIDS, IRON GIRL Run, the IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun, the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship or any other official event - we are contributing to retain the environment and set new standards for major sport events.”
