Dear all,

Here is my race report for Ironman Weymouth on Sunday, September 11.

But before I go through the race journey, I have to explain a few things…

For those who are not friends on social media, you may remember that last year I announced my retirement from Ironman racing after Ironman Sweden. However, my retirement didn’t last long, as only a few weeks later I signed up for Ironman Barcelona on October 2, 2017, under huge peer pressure. Some are still making jokes about this possibly being one of the shortest retirements in triathlon history.

Hej hej from Gotland, Sweden, where I am enjoying some vacation post-Ironman race.

As promised, here is my race report…

This was a tough race, much tougher than I expected. Apparently these have been the most extreme weather conditions in 20 years of ironman distance racing in Kalmar, including a wind warning 1 on the Island of Öland where a big portion of the biking took place. On the other hand the race atmosphere and the spectators were fantastic making it all worth. But let’s start from the beginning…

Eva Kovacs conquista il podio al Challenge Weymouth 2014!

Dear all,

As promised, here is my race report for Challenge Weymouth, in Dorset, United Kingdom. This was going to be its first edition, as Challenge UK was moved from Hanley on Thames at the end of 2013. Expected were 500-600 participants (of which only about 10% women) for the full ironman distance and 800-900 participants for the half ironman distance.

Come sempre un racconto molto bello e istruttivo per l'approccio alla gara e le motivazioni davvero esemplari e sportive da parte di questa atleta che in passato è stata anche campionessa ticinese nella triplice disciplina.

Dear Family and Friends,

As promised, here is my race report, with a little delay as I am enjoying some vacation in Germany and France…

The good news is that I met several of my goals:

- I completed the race, which is all it matters at the end

- I completed the race within the cut-off of 15 hours (in Ironman branded races, we typically get 17 hours to complete the race)

- I enjoyed the great race atmosphere, particularly climbing up the Solarerberg, and finishing in Roth in the biggest stadium of triathlon history

Pubblichiamo questo bel resoconto inviatoci da Eva Kovacs in cui racconta com'è andata la sua ultima gara, l'Ironman di Mont Tremblant disputato domenica. Ricordiamo che Eva è nata a Minusio e che dopo gli studi al Politecnico di Zurigo si è trasferita dapprima in Olanda per il dottorato e in seguito negli Stati Uniti (appena fuori New York) dove oggi lavora per la multinazionale Unilever. Eva - forse non tutti lo sanno - è stata una delle pioniere del triathlon in Ticino: la sua prima gara risale infatti al 1986 quando prese parte ad una delle primissime edizioni del triathlon di Locarno che si chiamava ancora "Ironman".

Chi è Eva Kovacs?

Nata 43 anni fa, sono cresciuta in Ticino, più precisamente a Minusio.

A 19 anni ho lasciato il Ticino per studiare Scienze Alimentari al Politecnico di Zurigo. Dopo gli studi mi sono trasferita in Olanda (Maastricht University) per lavorare nella ricerca scientifica, nel campo dell’ alimentazione sportiva (Isostar) prima e del trattamento dell’ obesità poi, dove ho anche conseguito il dottorato. Per circa 10 anni, di cui gli ultimi 6 anni negli Stati Uniti (appena fuori New York), ho lavorato per la multinazionale Unilever come Nutrition Manager occupandomi dei prodotti SlimFast e Lipton.
